• MACA Participates in CISAC General Assembly

      (Tokyo, May 28-30, 2019)The International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) General Assembly, Asia-Pacific Committee Meeting and Financial Standards Training Conference hosted by CISAC the was held from May 28th to 30th in Tokyo, Japan (JASRAC). Chairman of the Board of Directors of Macau Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA), João Kruss Gomes, Board Member Ho Chon Ian, Chief Executive Officer Ung Kuoc Iang and representatives attended the three-day meeting to participate in the election of new CISAC Board members, explore the licensing matters and development trend in broadcast media, cinema and karaoke. In the meantime, MACA also attended the training by CISAC representatives on the latest financial standards and the association's financial regulatory system.

     

      The CISAC General Assembly coincides with the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC), bringing together more than 200 member associations around the world. The Assembly started immediately after the speech of Japan Prime Minister Shinzō Abe. At the meeting, CISAC introduced the latest membership management scheme, the member association operation compliance review and the new CISAC Board members were elected by the global Member Associations.

     

      At the CISAC Asia-Pacific Committee Meeting, representatives from various countries made an update on the current management of music rights in the Asia Pacific region. CISAC affirmed MACA's work over the years and denoted that 2019 is the 10th anniversary of MACA's establishment, after ten years of continuous efforts to promote the educational work, the protection of intellectual property right is getting more and more attention in Macau. CISAC and various associations have been paying attention to the development of copyright in Macau, especially the use of their members’ music by broadcasters, cinemas and karaoke. Representatives of various associations also expressed great concern about the use of their countries’ musical works in Macau. To close the meeting, CISAC announced that the next Asia Pacific Committee meeting will be held in Macau in November 2019.

     

      CISAC has updated the financial system procedure in response to the current trend of global intellectual property development. At the training meeting, CISAC representatives introduced the latest financial guidelines and the association's financial regulatory system to better adapt to global development and increase the transparency of the association's operations.
