The 10th "MACA Song Writers Quest " Ended Successfully

(Macau, 26 November 2022) – "MACA Song Writers Quest 2022" was held on 26 November (Saturday), 7:30pm at the Macao Contemporary Art Centre - Navy Yard No. 2. The event hosted by the Macau Association of Composers, Authors & Publishers (MACA), sponsored and supported by the Fundo de Desenvolvimento da Cultura came to a successful completion. The event has been held for ten years since 2013, MACA hopes to continue and develop more wonderful original music works through the competition, gather the music creators then give them an opportunity to show their original songs, cultivate more creative talents and attract more attention to Macao music.

"MACA Song Writers Quest 2022", as an annual original music event in Macau, is a platform for more music creators to demonstrate their creative abilities. Even though it has been affected by the epidemic in recent years, MACA insisted on hosting it. Through the event, it is hoped that all the music creators in Macao will be encouraged to continue to create more new works. Many contestants feel honored to be selected in the final eight among many works. It’s a great encouragement to them. During the competition, the judges gave comments to each song. Some contestants said that they have clear direction, more motivation and inspiration to create good works. They look forward to having more opportunities to cooperate with musicians after participating in this event.

A famous judging panel composed of composer, arranger and music producer Schumann; composer, arranger and music producer Chan Fai Young and composer, lyricist and music tutor Joe Lei. They selected eight works from among the many contested songs competed for the Champion, the 1st and the 2nd Runner-up, the Best Song Composition, the Best Lyrics and My Favorite Song. The 8 finalists are 01 Blue Night Dance (composed by Chase, lyric by Charles); 02 I Am Used To Being Alone (composed and lyric by Ka Fu); 03 Happy Wife Happy Life (composed and lyric by Iron Ian); 04 Hurting Hesitation (composed and lyric by Anson and Charissa); 05 Wedding Night (composed by Abby, lyric by Mervyn); 06 The Lost Atlantis (composed by Herson Si, lyric by Mervyn); 07 Mermaid Folklore (composed by Mathew Lam and lyric by Rico Long) and 08 Roaming Traveler (composed by Leong Chi Long, lyric by Lio Chun Long)

On the day of the finals, after the judge panel had rated and commented on each entry, the winners of various awards were finally selected, including the Champion: Mermaid Folklore (composed by Mathew Lam and lyric by Rico Long), the 1st Runner-up: The Lost Atlantis (composed by Herson Si, lyric by Mervyn), the 2nd Runner-up: Blue Night Dance (composed by Chase, lyric by Charles), they will receive prizes of MOP6,000, MOP4,000, MOP3,000 and trophies respectively. The Best Song Composition is Mermaid Folklore (composed by Mathew Lam and lyric by Rico Long) the Best Lyrics is The Lost Atlantis (composed by Herson Si, lyric by Mervyn), each will receive a prize of MOP2,000 and a trophy and My Favorite Song which was voted by netizens: Blue Night Dance (composed by Chase, lyric by Charles) will receive a prize of MOP1,000 and a trophy.

Guests who attended MACA Song Writers Quest include Li Jiaxin, Representative of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Ho Hong Pan, Head of the Department for the Promotion of Cultural and Creative Industries of Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau; Wong Kuan Wai, Acting Head of Intellectual Property Rights Investigation Division of Customs Service of the Macao SAR; Kathleen Hong, Representative of Macao Government Tourism Office; Choi Meng Lei, Officer of the Culture and Recreation Committee of Macau General Union of Neighborhood Associations.
