• MACA attended the CISAC Asia Pacific Committee Broadcasting and OTT Distribution Training

( Kuala Lumpur, Oct 11 & 12, 2023) – The Asia Pacific Committee Broadcasting and OTT Distribution Training, hosted by the International Confederation of Authors and Composers Societies (CISAC), is held from 11th to 12th Oct. Three representatives of Macau Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (MACA), together with more than 69 representatives from over 16 territories attend the training. The training focuses on the royalty distribution for broadcasting and over-the-top media services (OTT).

At the meeting, the CISAC representatives introduced that broadcasting collections remained the largest single source of revenue for the CISAC community in 2021, although displaying a declining trend. The Asia-Pacific region exhibited the highest share of digital revenues, highlighting the considerable scope for improvement in the broadcasting sector, both in terms of revenue collection and distribution.

With the rapid development of digital electronic products, a streaming media service provided directly to viewers through the Internet is called an over-the-top media service (OTT), such as YouTube TV, iQIYI, Tencent Video, etc. The global landscape has witnessed a surge in OTT services in recent years, which are, to some extent, poised to supplant traditional television models. We have been dedicated to working towards ensuring the precision and punctuality of royalty distribution to creators in this dynamic sector. This year's regional training placed a focused emphasis on broadcasting and OTT distribution — how to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of royalty to rights holders on a global scale.

Representatives from MACA said that music copyright is developing rapidly, and Macau will keep up with the pace of international development, constantly update and learn the newest music copyright management and royalty distribution methods, and try their best to protect and safeguard the maximum rights and interests of copyright holders. Representatives attending this training including APRA from Australia, CASH from Hong Kong, COMPASS from Singapore, FILSCAP from the Philippines, IPRS from India, JASRAC from Japan, KOMCA from Korea, MACA from Macau, MACP from Malaysia, MCSC from Mainland China, MCT from Thailand, MÜST from Taiwan, VCPMC from Vietnam, WAMI from Indonesia, ASCAP from the United States and GEMA from Germany.
